The Grand Tetons boast some of the most iconic views in the United States. Not only does this location provide incredible views, it is rich with history. According to Travel Wyoming, Paleo-Indians inhabited this land almost 11,000 years ago, and trappers arrived in 1810. Additionally, Grand Teton National Park does not lack any wildlife by any means. It is home to Moose, Bison, Grizzly Bears, Black Bears and Elk, to name a few. I recently made a solo trip up to Jackson, and absolutely loved it. Below are a few tips & recommendations:
Sightseeing – Schwabacher Landing
Schwabacher Landing is a must-see, and super easy to get to! Just search Schwabacher Landing in your smartphone and you’re all set. I recommend getting there as early as possible, to catch a beautiful sun-rise. As this spot has become a popular spot for photographers, don’t be surprised if you see a lot of people here. As this scenic viewpoint is flat and does not require any hiking, it is family friendly and a good option for elderly people.

Hiking – Delta Lake
Distance: 9.0 miles
Elevation Gain: 2,329 Ft.
Route Type – Out & Back
Details: Access this trail via Lupine Trail Meadows Trailhead, via Amphitheater Lake Trail. As the trailhead fills up quickly and there is not a lot of shade, I’d recommend arriving early. After about 3+ miles, you will approach a switchback with some rocks, and wood steps to your right. At this point, you are now entering the Delta lake portion, which is not maintained by the park service.
There is about another mile or so of hiking past multiple rock fields, please be aware of cairns as they will help you locate the trail. If you have the All Trails app, it is a helpful resource to keep you on trail. The last portion is very vertical, with areas of loose dirt; be cautious. After all the hard work, it’s time to soak in the views!
If you are feeling ambitious, you can hike up to Surprise Lake and Amphitheater Lake afterwards. You would just continue hiking up the Amphitheater Lake trail. If you are planning on seeing all three lakes, I recommend stopping at Delta Lake first, because it can get crowded.
Food
I didn’t have much time to explore the restaurants in Jackson. However, if you are looking to re-charge after a long hike with some pizza, Pinky G’s is your best option. Guy Fieri Approved.

Lodging
I booked an Airbnb on the Idaho side as it was more cost efficient. Check out towns such as Victor or Driggs, Idaho. I am not too familiar with campsites, however, I did hear that the below campgrounds are good spots to camp:
- Jenny Lake Campground – First come, first serve. Arrive early.
- Colter Bay Campground– First come, first serve. Arrive early.

Final Takeaways
Be prepared & respect the wildlife. Grizzly Bears are no joke, make sure you hike with bear spray. I also hiked with a bear bell, I figured better safe than sorry. If you are camping, store your food responsibly and use bear bags. If you take selfies with a bear, moose, or bison, you’re gonna have a bad time. Enjoy!
